About the energy efficiency fund

Origins

The Energy Efficiency Fund (EEF) was created following an agreement reached between representatives from various socio-economic and environmental interest groups in Québec and Gaz Métro. This agreement was authorized by the Régie de l'énergie in the Fall of 2000 and has since been renewed until September 2012.

Areas of intervention

The EEF must carry out energy efficiency projects that:

  • target a building’s envelope and introduce new or emerging technologies in the marketplace;
  • are undertaken by consumers who use natural gas or who intend to use it;
  • are partly in the residential market and partly in the business market, in proportion, more or less, to the respective contributions of these two markets to Gaz Métro’s revenues;
  • are to be made as much as possible in partnership, so as to maximize the spin-offs of monies invested for Gaz Métro customers.

Strategic objectives

For all customers selected, the EEF’s objective is to develop and put into place innovative activities and programs.

In the residential sector, the EEF’s objective is to dedicate part of its resources to the development of programs for low-income customers and social community projects.

Management

The assets of the EEF are administered by Gaz Métro. A Management Committee composed of ten representatives ensures the development of a multi-annual action plan. The action plan is approved on a yearly basis by the Régie de l'énergie.

The EEF’s Management Committee is composed of representatives named by the following organizations:
