Solar heating

Use solar energy and save!

This program offers incentives for the acquisition and installation of solar air or water heating systems.

Financial assistance from the Energy Efficiency Fund (EEF)1

  • Receive $6 per cubic meter of natural gas saved, calculated using an energy simulation;
  • The maximum rebate granted is $100,000, up to a limit of 75 % of the cost of the project, considering all financial assistances received or allowed. The costs admissible are those judged necessary for the setting up of a functional solar heating system.

Eligible systems

The solar heating systems installed have to use only panels approved by the program.

All the panels which were recognized by the old ecoENERGIE Renewable Heat program from Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) at its closure time, on October 1st, 2010, are accepted for the EEF program. Any other panel which was not recognized in the NRCan's list needs to be certified by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) to be admissible.

It is possible to verify the admissibility of a solar panel by contacting the EFF social community advisor, at 514 719-8154.

Are you eligible for this program?

Housing cooperatives, non profit housing cooperatives, and social community organizations servicing low income clients whose building is heated by natural gas for air or water are eligible.

Steps to follow:

You have up to 3 months following the installation of your solar heating system to make a request for financial assistance.

Etape 1 Send us
  • The financial assistance application form duly completed.
Air heating form:
Electronic version (378 ko) Print version (PDF | 109 ko)
Water heating form:
Electronic version (388 ko) Print version (PDF | 111 ko)
  • The electronic file with the simulation done with RETScreen or Swift software;
  • One or more photos of the building's facade.
Etape 2 Wait for confirmation

The EEF will confirm the financial assistance potentially available based on the cubic meters of natural gas to be saved, according to the energy simulation file of RETScreen or Swift software.

Etape 3 Carry out the work

You must carry out the work in accordance with the information submitted to the EEF.

Etape 4 Once the work is completed, send us:

  • The report of the system’s implementation, signed by a professional engineer or a certified engineering technician:
Electronic version (239 ko) Print version (PDF | 128 ko)
  • One or more photos of the installation.
